Our Reality: A Wealth of Funds, A Lack of Information - Sex-Education in Florida

SIECUS, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, released a shocking report investigating where and how the millions in federal funding for abstinence education in Florida is spent each year. Too much of this money, the report finds, is used to fund programs that use medically inaccurate scare tactics to teach abstinence in Florida's public schools. The report discovers that much of the funding also goes to crisis pregnancy centers - pseudo health clinics leading the Crusade against abortion. And in spite of it all, many schools still do not offer sex-education to students, let alone require it. What will it take to teach teens the facts they need to protect themselves in Florida, the state with the 2nd highest HIV transmission rate in the country?
