Stephen F. Schneck, Ph.D., is Director of the Life Cycle Institute at the Catholic University of America. Previously, he was chair of the Department of Politics at the university for nine years. An activist on issues of faith and public policy, Professor Schneck is also an advisor and board member for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. A popular lecturer on campus and in the Washington area, and an author or editor of several academic books, Schneck’s research and teaching is in the field of political philosophy. He is presently completing a book on religion and the American public square.

Less than half of American voters self-identify as pro-choice. Democrats cannot build a winning coalition without attracting and keeping some self-identified pro-lifers. Obama's common ground campaign promises helped do that. The new swing voter is a pro-lifer for common ground.

Most blogs, especially public policy blogs, seem to spin in place. So, wanting to succeed in genuinely making progress on common ground initiatives, I want to avoid the free market of ideas model in this venue.
