Kimberly Inez McGuire

Kimberly Inez McGuire is Senior Associate for Programs and Policy with the Reproductive Health Technology Project (RHTP), where she is responsible for managing and supporting several of RHTP’s reproductive health program areas including environmental and reproductive health and contraceptive technologies. She studied Political and Legal Philosophy and received a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College, where she also served on the student coordinating committee for the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program’s (CLPP) annual conference on reproductive justice. Prior to her work with RHTP, Kimberly held internship positions with National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) and ChoiceUSA. Kimberly is currently a volunteer with the DC Rape Crisis Center as a hotline counselor and hospital advocate for sexual assault survivors, and is also working toward her birth doula certification. Kimberly lives in Northern Virginia with a fluffy black cat and at least one unfinished novel.

Yesterday, a new study made headlines claiming that oral contraceptive use is associated with prostate cancer. Scary, right? Wrong... There's no evidence of a link, though that didn't stop media from claiming there is.

!Si, se puede!? For Latinas and Other Uninsured Women, Gaps Remain in Access to Birth Control

Nearly four in ten Latinos are uninsured. "Si se puede…" can mean "IF she can…" and this conditional statement hints at the obstacles that remain after the HHS decision. IF a Latina can get health insurance, IF she can make it to a provider's office who can provide culturally-competent care in her language, and IF she can obtain and fill her prescription, THEN she will be able to fully enjoy the benefits of no-copay birth control.
