Janine Kossen

Janine Kossen

As Director of Public Policy at Advocates for Youth, Janine Kossen
primarily promotes international policies on HIV/AIDS, sexual and
reproductive health, and foreign assistance reform. Before coming to
Advocates, she was the Director of Federal Policy at ZERO TO THREE where
she managed the organization’s federal early childhood policy agenda.
Prior to that, Janine served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Islamic
Republic of Mauritania where she worked with regional and local health
professionals, adolescent girls, and community-based youth organizations
on programs related to HIV/AIDS, family planning, female genital
cutting, and life skills education. Janine holds a Juris Doctorate in
international human rights law from the University of Cincinnati and a
Masters of Public Health, with concentrations in health and human rights
and maternal and child health, from Johns Hopkins University.

For the first time in eight long years, the Senate held a hearing on ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, a treaty which conservatives believe would end the world as we know it.
