Elisabeth Sowecke is a lead case manager and a board member for the DC Abortion Fund. In addition, she is the membership associate of the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP) and a patient counselor at Potomac Family Planning Center in Rockville, MD. Previously, she coordinated membership and clinical guidelines at the National Abortion Federation. Elisabeth received her bachelor's degree in creative writing and women's studies from Bowling Green State University and began her work with abortion care at the Center for Choice in Toledo, OH. She writes feminist prose for her personal blog, Next to Deadly Wait Forever, and was an editor for The Coat Hanger Project.

Low-income women--even many ostensibly covered by Medicaid--face numerous obstacles to obtaining early, safe abortion services, leading to higher costs and later abortions than need be the case. The DC Abortion Fund is struggling to close the gap.
