Bethany Sousa is a Volunteer Attorney in the State Legislative Program at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Previously, she worked on women’s rights issues as a Women’s Research and Education Institute (WREI) Fellow for Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney. She has also practiced litigation and worked at several non-profit organizations in the U.S. and London. She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Master’s in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Under current law, recipients of federal money cannot force medical professionals to provide abortion or sterilization services if they object for moral or religious reasons. But proposed regulations would expand these laws at patients' expense.
