SUNSARA TAYLOR SPEAKING TOUR ORGANIZERS CALL FOR PROTEST AT AMERICAN APPAREL 2 pm at 712 Broadway, NYC (near West 4th Street)  Spread the word:  Weâre calling for protest this  Saturday at American Apparel against their  âSearch for Best Bottom in the Worldâ contest.  The contest promotes the degradation of women everywhere and is intolerable.    On their website, American Apparel describes the contest this way: âConfident about the junk in your trunk? Show us your assets! Post a photo of your booty's best side for judgment. We're looking for a brand new bum (the best in the world!) to be the new âfaceâ for our always expanding intimates and briefs linesâŚâ  This demands a response.   In the US we are told that women are no longer oppressed. Yet, how many will learn to starve themselves, cut themselves, hate themselves, internalizing the images that saturate society of women as objects of sexual conquest, the butt of a joke, or baby-making machines?   As it's put in this week's editorial in Revolution newspaper, "We live in a capitalist culture where women are devalued and reduced to disembodied breasts and bottomsâadvertised at every turn as objects for the sexual gratification of men. Sexuality and human intimacy have been twisted into being just another commodity: a thing to be bought and sold and exploited in the marketplace, instead of a way to express love and as a source of mutual pleasure. Because of this and a thousand more chains on women worldwide we are building a movement for revolution." www.revcom.us    THIS IS ONE MORE REASON why everyone who thinks that women should be treated as whole human beings need to come to NYUâs Cantor Film Center at 36 East 8th Street on Tuesday, February 23 from 7-9:30 pm to hear Sunsara Taylorâs talk on âFrom the Burkha to the Thong: Everything Must, and Can, be Changed! We Need Total Revolutionâ
