Special Rights or Basic Rights?
If we give gays the right to marry, that will be giving them an equal right. If we get women the same rights men enjoy, that will be equal rights. Some conservatives call those rights "special rights".
Those same conservatives are against abortion and in favor of fetal rights. Being in favor of fetal rights but against "special rights" is a contradiction because fetal rights really are special rights.
Here are some of the other rights a fetus woud get if we give them basic rights:
Right to life: Right to live inside a woman, right to abuse a pregnant woman, right to put a pregnant woman's life in danger, and the right to put a pregnant woman's health in danger.
Rights that would be taken away from pregnant women:
Right to self defense against the fetus, right to ride a bike, right to drive with a valid drivers license (you can't have a child in the drivers seat of a moving car), right to drink if old enough, right to abortion, and more.
Rights of the pregnant woman that the rights of the fetus would conflict with:
Right to life, right to pursuit of happiness, right to liberty, right to receive treatment for illnesses, and more.
How is giving the fetus all those rights not giving it special rights?
It's really annoying that some people claim my best friend being allowed to marry his boyfriend is a special right but giving a fetus the right to break the law isn't giving it special rights.
