reader diary by Chloe Angyal

It certainly is exciting to be starting an RH Reality Check reader blog. I’ve been a fan of the site for a long time; I look forward to Mondays because it means a new Amanda Marcotte podcast, and I’m always amazed by the breadth of experience and knowledge I find among the people who write for the site. So it’s nice to be able to participate in the community, and I look forward to a lot of animated, passionate discussion about reproductive health issues, sex, and much more.

I’m about to hand in my senior thesis, a 100-page behemoth that I never really thought would materialize. But materialize it did, and once it’s submitted and I have duly celebrated and recuperated, I’m going to start posting here at RH Reality Check as much as I can.

But before I do, let me tell you a little about myself. I'm a Sociology major at Princeton in New Jersey, and failing any major disasters I'll be graduating in June, hoping to work for a women's non-profit when I do. I grew up in Sydney, Australia, and came to the States for college four years ago. I like to dance, hang out with my friends, and get beaten at Scrabble by my grandma. I like to write about (in no particular order) feminism, reproductive rights, images of women’s bodies and sexuality in the media, sex education, and anything else that takes my fancy. My senior thesis, which I nicknamed "the recession" back when it was really stressing me out (for West Wing fans, I also called it "the bagel"), was about women and gender on Wall Street trading floors. My favourite blogs are Feministing, Jezebel, The Pursuit of Harpyness, and Princeton's feminism blog, which I started with a friend last year, Equal Writes.

I'm really excited that RH Reality Check has launched this new community blog, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. Watch this space for more entries soon - I look forward to hearing your feedback, comments and insights.

Welcome, Chloe! (I look forward to Mondays for the same reason.) We are delighted to have you posting here -- is your thesis at all related to sexual and repro health and rights? If so you should give us a snapshot. Regardless, I look forward to your thoughts appearing on the site.
