Bob Barr on Reproductive Health Issues
Bob Barr is the Libertarian candidate for President of the
United States. He is running with Vice Presidential candidate Wayne Allyn Root.
Barr held a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for eight years, representing the 7th district of Georgia and currently works at a law firm.
While the standard Libertarian platform advocates for limited to no government intervention in the arena of reproductive rights - Bob Barr voted anti-choice across the board during his congressional terms. Back in the early 1990s, Barr received a "perfect score" from the Christian Coalition for his anti-choice voting record despite the claims made by Barr's second wife who says he agreed to her undergoing an abortion when they were married.
According to On The Issues, Bob Barr not only opposes abortion and voted numerous times to restrict access to abortion but opposes U.S. aid for family planning funds abroad as well. In addition, Bob Barr opposes the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide arguing that abortion should be banned.
Though the Libertarian platform also takes a strong stance on civil liberties including "sexual freedom", Bob Barr was a principal sponsor of the Defense Of Marriage Act using the argument that marriage between two men or two women undercuts the "very foundation of the family unit." Some have pointed out that this is a hypocritical position considering Barr is on his third marriage. However, Bob Barr did not support the Federal Marriage Amendment that would have altered the constitution to ensure that only marriage between a man and a woman be recognized, stating that "...the Constitution is no place for forcing social policies on the states."

Arizona may soon potentially ban health insurance companies that cover any public employee -- from librarians to state workers -- from covering abortion or any health services related to abortion.
It's yet another day at the Oklahoma Legislature, with another few anti-choice bills getting passed.
Stupak Stupak Stupak. Frankly, I don't think I could be more tired of the word "Stupak." But like a splinter you keep pushing in deeper with your tweezers while you're trying to get it out of your finger, there he is, still trying to hold healthcare hostage over his beliefs that women cannot be trusted with their own bodies.
