by Rev. Dr. Maria LaSala, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
December 19, 2011 - 3:40pm (Print)
Time and time again we see how God gives God’s people choices in their decisions to follow in God’s way. The Annunciation story is but one of many pointing to a God who gives us the power to make moral choices and trusts that we will do so.
Perry Stigmatizes Gays, Using Ploy of Discrimination Against Christians
In this campaign ad, Rick Perry says: "I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school." Abortion, Let's NOT Leave Religion Out of It!
August 27, 2011 - 3:40pm (Print)
Over and over and over again people tell me to leave religion out of the debate over abortion. "Many Christians believe in the right to abortion, at least in cases of rape or incest," I am often told, "So, why alienate them by bringing up religion?"
Priests to "Forgive" Women for Having Abortions
"World Youth Day" in Madrid, Pope Benedict will forgive women who had abortions rather than excommunicating them from the Catholic church, as is the traditional (read: prejudiced/patriarchal) post-abortion protocol. In order to be "forgiven" for their "sins," women who had abortions will have to confess to having had abortions, admit to having taken an "innocent human life," and appear truly sorry. More here.
