House Committee Zeroes Out Traditional Sources of Ab-Only Funding, Removes Ban on Syringe Exchange

This morning, the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies passed the Fiscal Year 2010 appropriations bill and in doing so eliminated traditional sources of abstinence-only-until marriage programs and a ban on syringe exchange for HIV prevention among users of intravenous drugs. The full scope of changes is still, however, being analyzed.

Today, the Limited-Service Pregnancy Disclaimers Bill was signed into Baltimore law. The bill ensures that women who enter Baltimore area Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) hoping to find access to birth control, information about a potential pregnancy, or referrals to abortion providers will be immediately informed if those services are not available.
