FDA Approves Human Trials for Anti-HIV Vaccine
The first and only preventative HIV vaccine based on a genetically modified killed whole virus has received approval by the US FDA to start human clinical trials. Developed by Dr. Chil-Yong Kang and his team at The University of Western Ontario, the vaccine (SAV001) holds tremendous promise; it has already proven to stimulate strong immune responses in preliminary toxicology tests with no adverse effects or safety risks.

Ten years ago tomorrow (September 28th, 2010) the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the use of mifepristone along with misoprostol for early term abortions. Data from the Centers for Disease Control show that while the incidence of abortion has remained steady, the share of those performed very early in pregnancy has increased.

FDA Approves New Emergency Contraceptive

On Friday, August 13th, 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs approved the sale and use of "ella," the brand name for a new form of emergency contraception that will provide women with more options to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Health advocates welcomed the news.
