I am very grateful for Michelle Obama and Betty Ford, two American girls whose heartland families instilled such high ambitions in their daughters. But it sure would be wonderful if Michelle Obama, First Lady, were able to be like Betty Ford, First Lady, in leading courageously on women's rights.

Living History, Making History: The New President and the Call for Universal Human Rights

Today, as Barack Obama takes the oath of office, I am reminded of Eleanor Roosevelt, who stated: "The destiny of human rights is in the hands of all our citizens in all our communities."  Let's heed this call to action and make universal human rights real for all people.
