I agree with Jim Wallis that the truth has become a casualty in this war--because both Jim and the Catholic Bishops have twisted it. And if Jim Wallis and his conservative allies have their way, women will become another casualty.

Abortion has become a popular sideshow in the three-ring circus of the debate over health care reform. In particular, many questions about abortion funding have arisen—some genuine and some distorted.

Faith groups now want to expand the Hyde Amendment so that everyone is denied coverage for abortion care even with private insurance, while the same groups are ignoring the exclusion of undocumented workers.

The Family Research Council, following on a TV ad last week roundly criticized by groups such as Catholics United for its misleading and inaccurate claims, has launched a second and equally misleading advertisement claiming that federal funding for abortion care under health reform will rob senior citizens of coverage for necessary surgeries.
