The "small government" Republican and Tea Party majority in the House are seeking to put their big, intrusive footprint on the necks of District residents by inserting an amendment to the 2012 Financial Services Appropriations bill extending that ban for another year.

House Committee Zeroes Out Traditional Sources of Ab-Only Funding, Removes Ban on Syringe Exchange

This morning, the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies passed the Fiscal Year 2010 appropriations bill and in doing so eliminated traditional sources of abstinence-only-until marriage programs and a ban on syringe exchange for HIV prevention among users of intravenous drugs. The full scope of changes is still, however, being analyzed.

Advocates Urge White House, Congress To Broaden Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative
