Celebrating the good during Black Herstory Month is as easy as it is tempting, but exploring and addressing the injustices that remain unaddressed is required for the month to be meaningful.

African American women who care about reproductive justice are not fooled into thinking that the Black anti-abortion movement cares about gender justice. If they had their way, we would be re-enslaved once again, based on our fertility.

Behind virtually every abortion is an unintended pregnancy. African American women have higher abortion rates than their white peers because they have much higher rates of unintended pregnancy -- three times higher than those of white women.
