The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was among the first to call for an “abortion-neutral” health care bill in July, defined as maintaining current policies on funding, mandates, and conscience protections. But then they reneged on the deal.

"Irrational." "Hypersensitive." "Hysterical." The tone of comments on Daily Kos around the abomination known as the Stupak-Pitts Amendment is: "Calm down, little lady. Get real. Be adults. Doncha know how politics really works?"

Today, President Obama repeated one of the most tired excuses the Democratic party has to its failure to be truly pro-choice. The famous "This is a health care bill, not an abortion bill" excuse. Mr. President: Abortion is health care. It's women's health care. And we need you to say that.

Quite the contentious issue, the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act has never been enacted due to a court injunction -- until now. The law, scheduled to go into effect yesterday, now remains in political limbo pending a lawsuit and considerations from a regulation department.

Since abstinence is all that young adolescents and adults are sometimes exposed to, they lack the education that prepares them against the adverse effects of sexual intercourse, including STD’s and unintended pregnancy.
