The Ryan DeLauro bill, "common ground" legislation re-introduced today, does seem to represent real political progress.
Improving adoption policy seems to be a logical plank in a common ground agenda. Pro-choicers ought to like giving women more
options. Pro-lifers have been advocating adoption aid for a while.

What is common ground? Can pro-lifers embrace birth control? Can pro-choicers embrace abortion's moral complexity? Should we pay women not to have an abortion? Will Saletan, of Slate, and I consider all the complicated questions.

The most common argument I hear from pro-choice women in is, "this simply is no one's business but the woman's." That may be right, that may be fair - but it is not what Roe v. Wade says.

My common ground fantasy involves both pro-life and pro-choice leaders taking certain premises of each other's movements more seriously in order to break the conceptual logjam we've created.
