How Long Does It Take To Pull an E-Book?

The discovery that Amazon is offering a Kindle book on pedophilia has created a huge uproar via social media channels.

As of 11 am central on Wednesday, November 10th, the Amazon e-offering “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure” had 55 reviews, each of them one star, the lowest rating possible.

None of the respondents read the book (or read more than the free snippet provided), but it wasn’t really necessary.  The comments spoke for themselves, questioning how Amazon could even allow such a title on their “shelves” in the first place.

I pride myself on the fact that I choose to look into things before crying “foul”, but just the NOTION that someone is trying to defend the act of any kind of romantic relationship with a child gets my blood boiling! No, I have not read the book (which, in turn, would mean I have not purchased it so this comment will probably be removed), but the subject matter alone warrants the protest from myself and the (soon to be) SCORES of outraged individuals.

I’ll be boycotting Amazon and encouraging my friends to do the same. Simply, truly, AWFUL!

DANG IT! I can’t rate it with zero stars. I’m sure everyone feels to same frustration.

How did the book get approved? It’s a worthy question, especially if just the summary of the title is taken into consideration.

This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian[sic] rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter[sic] sentences should they ever be caught.

But the pedophile piece isn’t the only one that the author is selling via Kindle on Amazon.  He is the author of a dissertation on sex, another on disproving God’s existence, and a fourth on a strange variety of constitutional issues.

In fact, as unlikely as it may seem at first glance, he is in fact a published author, with two physical paperback books for sale in the Amazon library.

Phillip R. Greaves, 2nd. is a rogue scholar with respect to the topics of religion, sexuality and politics. “The Grand Book Of The Godless And Free,” is a collection of essays regarding these general subjects with titles exploring the nature of “God” to parenthood for single-gender families. This is a contraversial[sic] volume presenting the often unique views of the author. Thus far, everyone who has read this work has been impressed by its wit and depth. Ray (as he is more commonly known) began his path to knowledge and enlightenment at the ripe old age of ten. When he left the Baptist tradition in which he had been raised and sought-out a new faith beginning with his studies at the local library. He was already familar[sic] with sex by the age of seven. Soon he met a varity[sic] of people from foreign lands and cultures, from whom he acquired much additional knowledge. Later he joined the Christian cult of the Way Ministry, followed by his joining the Baha’i Faith at the age of eighteen. Next, Ray joined the U.S. Army. Eight years later he embraced the view of rational disbelief, which he is happy to share and discuss with the world. Mr. Greaves is an admirer of Aristotle and Ayn Rand’s Objectivism.

It’s less of a shock that Amazon may have allowed such a book into its Kindle library without real review once it becomes clear it was submitted by someone that they considered to be a previously published author, and who had other published, paperback  works on sale in their store.

And, sadly, after reading the author’s profile, it becomes more clear that he may in fact have been a victim of the very topic he began writing about.

Should Amazon be selling such a book online?  Of course not.  But without a thorough review system put in place, it’s not a huge shock that such a thing occurred.  The real question is, how soon will it be before they get it offline?

In light of their previous record of deranking “adult” books with gay, lesbian or transgendered characters, while leaving those with straight characters untouched, you would think Amazon would have a quicker response to these sort of public relations disasters.

Numerous people have said they have spoken to Amazon public relations people, who are alerting the company itself.  We’ll see how quickly the company responds to this issue.
