Pat Quinn Wins IL Primary, Republicans' Choice Still Unknown

Comptroller Dan Hynes has conceded the Democratic primary race for  Illinois governor, after losing to Pat Quinn, the current governor who took over after Rod Blagojevich was impeached. Quinn, who had a lead in the vote count of 8,100 out of 875,000 cast, had already announced himself the winner.

It's still not yet known who Quinn will face on the Republican side. State Sentator Bill Brady currently holds a slim 405-vote lead over fellow state Sen. Kirk Dillard. Brady is more conservative than Dillard.

From the Chicago Tribune's candidate profile of Bill Brady:

Brady is not for abortions in cases of rape and incest nor when just the health of the mother is at risk. The only time he said an abortion should be permitted is if the mother's life is at stake.

He opposes gay marriage and civil unions. He voted against the state law passed in 2005 that banned discrimination against gays and lesbians in matters of housing and employment.

Dillard, in contrast, allows for abortion only in cases of rape and incest.

There wasn't much difference between Hynes and Quinn on reproductive rights issues, both were pro-choice candidates, although it was Quinn who was endorsed by Personal PAC, a political action committee that backs abortion rights. On gay rights, Hynes said he supported gay marriage while Quinn supports civil unions.
