Two days after the inauguration of President Elect Obama, we'll be commemorating the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade is the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal - and safe - for women in the United States. RH Reality Check will recognize the landmark decision and the opening of a door into a new era by hosting our second live-blog chat on the future of messaging for the reproductive rights movement with Gloria Feldt and Sarah Stoesz (president of PP of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and a leader in the successful fight against the abortion ban in South Dakota). Another way folks are marking the occasion? Anti-choice protestors will gather on Thursday for their annual March for Life, a protest that brings over one hundred thousand anti-choice voices to DC every year. 

Some of the protestors may also be attending the "Personhood Conference" this week organized by the American Life League or ALL (remember their anti-contraception campaign, 'The Pill Kills'?). Kristi Burton, the young and committed advocate responsible for the failed Colorado ballot initiative that would have conferred legal rights onto fertilized eggs will be speaking. 

Despite President Elect Obama's historic campaign rooted in unity and his success at creating a common ground movement for reproductive and sexual health and rights that includes traditionally pro-life scholars and activists, extremist organizations like ALL are staying the course. Good things come to those who wait and we've waited a long time to see a true advocate for reproductive health and rights in the White House. Despite ALL's insistence on pushing an agenda with which most Americans disagree, it looks likely that President Elect Obama will support a progressive, allied vision for reproductive health and rights.
