A pro-choice, pro-prevention President who doesn't demonize women who have abortions...AND free donuts on inauguration day...it's all just too much for the American Life League.  Apparently, wires in the ALL office short-circuited when the anti-choice group heard that Krispy Kreme would be giving away free donuts on Inauguration Day, heralded by the following press release:

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies -- just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet 'free' can be.

Seeing the words "freedom" "of" and "choice" one next to the other, ALL made the only conclusion they could have made: those are pro-abortion donuts Krispy Kreme plans to give away!

ALL issued a press release of its own:

KRISPY KREME CELEBRATES OBAMA WITH PRO-ABORTION DOUGHNUTS Washington, DC (15 January 2009)

The following is a statement from American Life League president Judie Brown:

"The next time you stare down a conveyor belt of slow-moving, hot, sugary glazed donuts at your local Krispy Kreme, you just might be supporting President-elect Barack Obama's radical support for abortion on demand - including his sweeping promise to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as soon as he steps in the Oval Office, Jan. 20. [...]

The unfortunate reality of a post Roe v. Wade America is that 'choice' is synonymous with abortion access, and celebration of 'freedom of choice' is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights on demand.
"President-elect Barack Obama promises to be the most virulently pro-abortion president in history. Millions more children will be endangered by his radical abortion agenda.

"Celebrating his inauguration with 'Freedom of Choice' doughnuts - only two days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to decriminalize abortion - is not only extremely tacky, it's disrespectful and insensitive and makes a mockery of a national tragedy.

Pro-Life: Give full resource information: welfare, legal, adoption, housing, clothing, food, college support, daycare, etc.... spiritual, financial, emotional, physical, societal support.

Pro-Life is not anti-choice, it is just a humanitarian choice that fully considers the human that is being snuffed surgically for no reason other than it is alive, and the mom and others want to salvage ego for Honor KIlling. It is the most demoralizing thing a woman can do. It NEVER empowers her. Most women I talk to say they think about their abortion at least once a day. YUCK!

I've seen your tiresome argument enough times.  You're being very selective in your representation of the choices pro-choice advocates wish to provide.  Your choice number 3, aside from being so hyper-emotional as to be inane, is missing a few things.

 

revised choice #3: terminate the pregnancy and free yourself from the physical, emotional, and financial danger a pregnancy poses to you.

 

There...I fixed it for you.

 

If you deny this choice, you're putting women's health, lives, and lifelong careers at stake for the sake of an unconscious lump of human tissue.  Wtf.  How is this humanitarian?  How far do you go, anyway?  Is a zygote (fertilized egg) sufficiently human in your eyes to be granted legal protection?  If not, then what reasons do you give for not extending this ridiculous level of protection to it?

 

(fyi, an embryo does not become a BABY no matter how many times you choose to put this in caps.  You're seriously undermining your own argument with that kind of emotive crap.)

Sorry, but I had an abortion when I was in college, and I never think about it. Women who go against deeply-held moral beliefs in order to have an abortion may be haunted by their actions, but not all women are carrying that baggage. Given that you're so obviously anti-abortion, the sample of women who you talk to about abortion is not going to contain a woman such as myself. We're everywhere, and we're not haunted by what we did; in fact, we're grateful that safe, legal abortion was available to us -- and no amount of pro-life scare-mongering and browbeating is going to change our minds.

Every Woman's Donut

While dreaming of sprinkles for free, I thought I'd peek back at this thread. I see that it has deteriorated.

The freedom that I believe Krispy Kreme spoke of has to do with health care reform. A cervix looks like a little donut. Over the next four years (and beyond!), I hope more women will have greater access to important reproductive health services and well-woman care, including yearly Pap smears to detect cancerous cells (bad sprinkles) on their little donuts.

If you just read between the lines, you can see that Krispy Kream cares about my special donut-- my cervix. Thank you.

I second this...

It's a concept that many of these anti-choice zombies can't comprehend: don't like abortion, then don't have one.

It's childish really, that they throw tantrums when people make personal choices that they don't like.Especially when said choice doesn't involve or hurt them in any way. I used to volunteer at a daycare center, and have seen kids having full-blown hissy fits just because another kid is coloring with a color that they don't like. That is what all these anti-choice rantings remind me of.

Of course, they claim they're just "protecting the unborn babies". Thats nice and all, but I wonder if their energy is misplaced. Would the anonymous poster above care about or love 'Dana' is he/she wasn't aborted? Would the poster help pay for all of 'Dana's' needs? I doubt it.

I think that if the anti-choicers really did care about children, they would focus on children who have already been born. There are many things they could do, like donate things that children need ( clothes, school suplies, food, ect) to children's charities. They could do volunteer work at children's centers, schools, and hospitals. They could also take foster children into their homes, or even adopt unwanted (or orphaned) children, giving them a loving home.

And just to be clear: I don't like abortion either, and would only choose it if my life were in danger. But it's my belief that abortion is a personal choice, and that no one has the right to take that away. I have no problem with the women I know who've had abortions, I don't judge them and I don't think they're horrible people. They all have their own reasons for making that choice and I respect that.
