Planned Parenthood Action Fund Endorses Obama

Amie Newman's picture

For only the second time in Planned Parenthood Action Fund's history, the organizaton has made a presidential endorsement.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced their official endorsement of Barack Obama yesterday, while the "kerfuffle" over Barack Obama's recent statements about abortion bans and mental health exceptions were still fresh.

Obama spoke to hundreds of action fund members on a call today after the announcement that the national board of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, ratified by the state affiliate organizations, unanimously voted to endorse him.

Obama has a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood while John McCain rates at a dismal 0% for his voting record on reproductive and sexual health issues.

Here is Planned Parenthood's president Cecile Richards on the endorsement:

SHAME ON YOU CECILE FOR ENDORSING OBAMA. ALREADY YOU ARE SEEING HIM AND THE DEMS WAFFLING ON ABORTION RIGHTS, EMBRACING THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT, ETC. BETTER YOU WOULD STAY OUT OF IT. NOW THAT OBAMA HAS YOUR ENDORSEMENT, HE CAN AND WILL SAY AND DO ANYTHING THAT CROSSES HIS MIND BECAUSE HE KNOWS ALL OF US WOMEN WILL JUST FOLD AND VOTE FOR THE CHOSEN ONE. NOT ME. COUNT ME OUT ALONG WITH MY USUAL STRONG BACKING OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD. WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU THINKING? NOW YOU HAVE NO LEG TO STAND ON WHILE HE ZIZAGS TO NOVEMBER AND MAYBE THE PRESIDENCY. SORRY, IT'S THE MOST DEPRESSING TIME OF MY FEMINIST LIFE AND IT'S BEEN A LONG ONE.

Ditto on that one. Obama, who has run as a candidate for "change" has duped a lot of leftists who believed he was the more honorable candidate in the Democratic primary. Now that he has "won" their votes, he no longer needs them and will prove to be as slimy as any other politician whose only agenda is to win. I am embarrassed that Planned Parenthood fell for this con artist. Far better to have endorsed Hillary, who never promised us a rose garden. Sorry, but my loyalty is with the woman candidate, whom I will write-in this time.

Let us not forget the alternative: John McCain. The real issue is John McCain's record on reproductive rights and women's health. We cannot afford to hold back our support of Senator Obama. I just don't think that is an option for any responsible woman.

John McCain has voted:
-against roe v. wade
-against comprehensive, medically-accurate sex education
-against requiring health care plans to cover birth control
-against funding international family planning
-against funding to reduce unintended and teen pregnancies
-against restoring family planning services for low-income women
