As if we needed more proof, a report released today by the non-partisan National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy offers clear evidence that abstinence-only programs do nothing to stem teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease rates in this country:
It may be too unwieldy for a bumper sticker so I say we just stick the above on a postcard and send it to Rep. Well, amen! How many of these studies need to come out before it makes any difference in the minds of ab-only advocates and/or a government that supports them to the exclusion of anything mentioning, oh I don't know...BIRTH CONTROL? The most frustrating thing is when I come across people who dismiss whole studies without ever giving them a glance by finding fault with, no matter how convoluted, the source of the study. It seems anything not to the liking of wait-till-marriage zealots is linked to the ultimate evil of Planned Parenthood and therefore intentionally concocted and utterly false. Because of course I am paraphrasing an exact argument presented to me recently. Seriously. |
