“Pray for Credit” Principal Put On Leave

After proposing community service credit for children who pray outside a reproductive health clinic, the principal is now on paid leave.

Maybe it wasn’t such a great idea after all.  The Canadian Catholic elementary and middle school teacher with the ingenious plan to have students pray in front of a health clinic that performs abortions in order to get school credit is now getting a paid vacation instead of accolades.

Principal David Hood of Christ the King School is on paid leave while Winnipeg’s Catholic educational community grapples with his plans to involve parents and students in abortion protests.

The private school’s board repudiated and cancelled Hood’s plans Wednesday afternoon. And Friday, the archdiocese issued a statement saying Hood is on paid leave.

“The Board of Directors of Christ the King School is currently reviewing the circumstances of this past week. David Hood has agreed to be on paid leave at this time. This has been a very stressful time for all those involved at Christ the King School including Mr. Hood,” said Robert Praznik, director of education for the Archdiocese of Winnipeg Catholic Schools.

The board of the directors will be meeting later this week to make a decision on how to deal with Hood’s plan, and the chaos and bad publicity it caused for the school.
